As of Jan. 15, all Ross department stores will be closing in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, USA Today reports. The news comes amid plans for a merger between Macy’s and Hudson’s Bay, which owns Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue.
The merger is scheduled to close sometime in 2018, although there has been no official word from either company on when store hours might change or how many retail locations might be affected by store closures or reduced hours.
UPDATE: On Feb. 1, 2017, Macy’s announced that it would shutter 68 stores across 15 states as part of its efforts to streamline operations. According to CNN Money , some 2,500 jobs are expected to be cut as a result of these closures; an additional 6,200 employees will also lose their jobs as some locations are converted into clearance centers.
